Of all the dream jobs out there, being a food critic would be in my top 5. Sure, I imagine there are some occupational health and safety risks involved, but if all you did was go to restaurants by night, surely you could fit in a work out every day… (If anyone is asking, my other dream jobs include travel presenting for a program like Getaway, testing chocolate/wine, playing tennis professionally or being a zookeeper).
Back to food critiquing. Last week saw the launch of the 2013 Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide. Talk about amazing jobs – SMH food writer Terry Durack and Joanna Savill have dined their way through Sydney’s stand-out restaurants and compiled their reviews into this one dining bible.
It’s super comprehensive and will come in very handy, or render decision-making near impossible, during those times when you’re deciding on a date night restaurant, somewhere to go with the fam or an overdue catch up with friends.
The Good Food Guide also names Sydney’s top restaurants for 2013, with the Star’s Momofuku Seiobo named Best New Restaurant (and cementing it close to the top of my “need-to-go-to-now” list), and Aria (somewhat predictably) taking out Best Restaurant of the year.
So I’d like you to start your own “must-go-to” list and share your favourite restaurants with me. To help, I’ll be sending a copy of the Good Food Guide (RRP $24.99) to one of my Feast Play Love subscribers. I’ve been thrilled (and a little surprised) at the number of new followers who have joined the FPL family during the last few weeks, so this is just a little thank-you.
Simply make sure you’re subscribed to FPL by next Friday 19 October to win. The draw will be conducted by random number generator and I’ll post the results next Saturday 20 October.
In the meantime, I’d love to hear about your dream job or favourite restaurant!
